Angela Buttrey is a professional Performer, Instructor, and Choreographer with over 25 years of experience. A native of Greece, she spent much of her adult life in the USA. Currently she has been spening most of her time in Greece and visiting Egypt and Turkey to learn more so she can teach fabulous styles of this beautiful art form and be a stronger and more knowledgeable performer herself.
Arriving in the US in the early 1970's, she was ecstatic to start performing professionally and to teach others The Art of Bellydancing. This is when she begun living her dream to dance. She maintained a demanding schedule of performing at nightclubs, restaurants, teaching classes, and producing shows throughout the 80s and early 90s featuring her own popular dance company, at that time known as the "Arabian Delites." Her efforts produced beautiful choreographed shows and dancers all over the country. All this while she was raising a family! She still managed to teach and perform internationally, and even appeared on TV. She considered herself very lucky to have worked with some of the best Arabic and Greek bands in Los Angeles and open up shows for well known singers, from Greece and The Middle East.
A few years later she renamed her dance company "1000 and 1 Nights Entertainment." They quickly became the most sought after dance group in Los Angeles and worked closely with the Arabic and Mediterranean communities. Now, dividing her time between Los Angeles and Greece, the group is available only for special engagements but it's always available for any special party or event.
Angela, specializes in Egyptian and Turkish belly dance styles, which are authentic and versatile. She understands fully the nuances and expression of each form. Combined with her formal dance training, her free spirit and soulful expression her dance style is very unique. She is very proud to have been compared to some of the famous legendary dancers of Egypt and told that it is a delight to watch her perform!
She has stories to tell about growing up in a strict Greek family where she was only permitted to dance at family gatherings. There, her loving Greek- Turkish aunties inspired her. They spoke of how they "saw a spirit in her, during her dancing" that could bring joy, happiness and tears in the eyes to people while she danced.
In her classes, not only you will have a wonderful time and absolute fun, but you will become a dynamic and passionate dancer. You'll find her classes in Los Angeles, Torrance and Westchester. She is available to teach master workshops and coach you to be a great entertainer whether you are a beginner or advanced dancer. She is also teaching and performing through-out Greece, offering a variety of workshops, as well as producing her famous choreographies.
She also is arranging tours to Greece and Egypt and even sponsoring and organizing workshops for other famous teachers of Raqs Sharki Dance.
